Hand2Mind - Express Your Feelings Sensory Bottles, Opposites: Overwhelmed and Calm

Hand2Mind Express Your Feelings Sensory Bottles: Explore Overwhelmed and Calm

Big feelings can be tricky to put into words. These Overwhelmed and Calm sensory bottles give children something to hold, watch and talk about as they explore two contrasting emotions. Each bottle has its own facial expression, colour and interactive element, helping turn an abstract feeling into a hands-on conversation.

Try choosing a bottle together, gently swirling it and asking, “Does this look like how you feel?” There is no right answer, just an opportunity to notice feelings and talk about how they can change.

What’s Inside

• The Overwhelmed and Calm sensory bottle pair from the Express Your Feelings Opposites range.
• A different facial expression, colour and interactive element on each bottle to represent its feeling.

Why Kids (and Parents) Love It

• A starting point for tricky conversations: Children can point to or choose a bottle when finding the right words feels difficult.
• Hands-on sensory exploration: Shake, swirl and rotate the bottles to explore their moving contents.
• Feelings made more tangible: The contrasting expressions and visual elements invite children to compare overwhelmed and calm.
• A quiet activity to share: Watch a bottle together and make space for a check-in about the day.
• Practice noticing emotions: Use the bottles to discuss your own feelings, a story character’s feelings or how someone else might feel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which feelings does this set represent?

The pair represents Overwhelmed and Calm. It is designed to help children explore contrasting feelings and talk about how one emotion can transition into another.

How do children use the bottles?

Children can choose a bottle that reflects how they feel, then shake, swirl or rotate it to watch the interactive element move. You can also explore the bottles together during a feelings check-in.

How can I start a conversation about emotions?

Try asking, “What do you notice about this face?” or “When have you felt like this?” Let your child describe their own experience rather than expecting a particular answer.

Will these bottles always calm my child?

No single sensory activity works for every child. These bottles offer a quiet, hands-on focus and a way to explore feelings, rather than a guaranteed solution to overwhelm.

Does this include all the Express Your Feelings bottles?

No. This listing includes the Overwhelmed and Calm pair only. Other feelings in the range are separate sets.

Who makes these sensory bottles?

They are made by Hand2Mind as part of the Express Your Feelings range of social-emotional learning resources.
